Profile -career-

Nozomi Kobayashi's mosaic paintings are not a decorative art technique in which small pieces of stones, glass, shells, etc. rice field.

With the main theme of "the two sides of the same coin (affinity between the self and others)", his style began with medium transfer of mosaic-processed photographs, and since 2016 he has painted mosaics on wooden panels. He established a unique method of carving a picture with a carving knife.

The act of mosaicing and carving is not only a means of deconstructing and reconsidering materials, but also plays a role in emphasizing anonymity and suppressing the preconceptions that unconsciously work when we perceive things. Another feature is the use of metallic paints to “imitate” Kintsugi from an attempt to reconfigure (combine and restore) the screens that have undergone the process of sculpture into paintings. By not using pure gold or the original method, it suggests the importance of the attitude of putting doubts on the visible form (subjectivity).

The viewer's knowledge, experience, and imagination are complemented by the various ways of seeing, and the number of viewpoints has the potential for new perspectives. .
