<Story of the work>

Mask series produced in 2021. A self-portrait expresses the contradictory feelings of feeling suffocated and at the same time feeling relieved by covering a human face, which is supposed to be bare. The motif is a self-portrait of the artist wearing an actual headgear.

In today's world where most of the face is covered, how do we humans recognize others? What kind of expression do you have under the covered cloth?

Through his work, he poses new questions that emerged in the 2020s.

<A word from the staff>
While working as a pharmacist, Fumika Ota, an artist from Aichi Prefecture, is also active as a painter. Knowing her profession as a medical illustrator, she started drawing pictures on her own, and her work is characterized by the realistic touch of the body and internal organs.

Mask life that has brought changes to our lives in recent years. This work is inspired by people wearing such masks.

Expressions and emotions cannot be read from a person wearing a non-woven fabric mask that covers the entire face. Now that masks make it difficult to distinguish faces, how do we recognize each other?

Artist Fumika Ota, who has been expanding her field of activity in recent years, has this opportunity to get her works for less than 100,000 yen.
