<Story of the work>

I feel an affinity for the two aspects of makeup and lacquer: to "make up beautifully" and "cover up."

When I look in the mirror every day to apply makeup, I always feel that applying makeup is not only about making your appearance look beautiful, but it is also an act of facing your inner self.

On the other hand, I feel that there is a similar aspect when working with lacquer. The process of painting and polishing over and over to express the beautiful luster of the surface is a time for me to face myself and improve myself. In modern society, where it is easy to turn our attention to the outside, we believe that it is important to face ourselves and know ourselves in order to live a richer life.

Lips have various shapes as organs that express emotions peculiar to humans. I feel that complex human emotions such as happiness, anger, sadness, and love/hate are an indispensable attraction that makes people who they are.

My red lips are a symbol of strength, beauty and faith. It captures and expresses the psychological change that becomes positive by wearing makeup. Makeup is becoming a form of self-expression that transcends gender. I made it with the meaning of a mirror that reflects not only the outside but also the inside.

Through makeup and lacquer, I pursue the question, "What is the essence of human beings?"

<A word from the staff>
Haruka Satsukime, a lacquer artist from Tochigi Prefecture, started creating works after focusing on the high affinity between cosmetics and lacquer. In her representative work "Red lip series", she has created many three-dimensional works that imitate lips, and other works such as cosmetics and perfume bottles as motifs. It expresses boldly and delicately about "or".

Appropriate for the title "MELT", this work is eye-catching with lips that melt like chocolate. The glossy texture is very attractive and it reminds me of glossed lips. If you put on your makeup in the room where the work is displayed, you'll want to use the same crimson lipstick.

All of Haruka Satsukime's works contain questions about "human nature" in common. How about spreading a new sense of values through this work?

Please take this opportunity to welcome Haruka Satsukime's "Red lip series", which is full of originality and expresses lacquer and makeup into your room.
